My story, and how it impacted my life:
Everyone has a story; one story I share quite often is my journey exploring my
Native American roots, history, and traditions (on the home page click on Spiritual
Ceremonies - the dream catcher).

Not many people are familiar with my journey to Reiki. This story has been a very
mystical experience, something that is very difficult to put into words. I will try to
condense what feels like a lifetime into a few paragraphs.  It has been an amazing
journey of hope, love, faith, personal discovery and healing miracles. One thing I am
sure of is that Reiki is Divine energy, Reiki is unconditional love, and Reiki is non-
judgmental. If one is open to Reiki your life will change for the better.

Reiki is like a door that opens – it presents to you an infinite number of spiritual
possibilities. It becomes the connector, a connector to your higher self, a connector
to others, a connector to universal consciousness. Reiki is all about empowerment –
being the person that you were meant to be with a purpose and a place in the
universe.  If you allow Reiki into your life it’s energy will take you where you are
supposed to go. It is your choice whether to embrace it or not.

In 1988 I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. I was in a great deal of pain all the
time. I had pain in every trigger point. I was the mother of four children and
worked part time for a factory. I couldn’t remember the last time I had slept
through the night. There was not much information about the condition yet. My
doctor gave me the drug amitriptyline the highest dose he could prescribe – he
stated the diagnosis very quickly and monitored my progress monthly for about 6
months.

Like most individuals I was relieved to have a diagnosis and the medication helped
my muscles to relax and I slept. It also helped with depression, which is part of the
symptoms of Fibromyalgia. I was not ready to just accept the diagnosis and turn
my power over to a doctor and a drug. I was not ready to be dependent upon
medication to feel normal. I believe that it was in that moment that I began my
journey to heal. This desire to heal led me to explore alternative methods of healing
and eventually Reiki came into my life.

I prayed for a healthy body. I meditated. I listened to pain management tapes, I
participated in Psychotherapy, I learned Tai Chi, I joined a gym to build my muscles
up, and I began to eat differently.  I used my energy to get better. One day I picked
up a New Age magazine and it had an article on Reiki. I thought I have to find
someone around this area that knows about Reiki and where I can get a treatment. I
believed that Reiki could accelerate my healing and it gave me hope that maybe I
could someday go a day without experiencing pain.

In 1995 a family member who lived in Arizona had a crisis and I went to help her
out. Before I came back to Wisconsin I was introduced to my sister’s massage
therapist. We began talking about Fibromyalgia and Reiki. That massage therapist,
Rebekah, ended up being a Reiki Master. I was so excited I just said I would love to
learn more about Reiki; in fact I wanted to learn Reiki. She looked at me and said
she would love to initiate me because I definitely had the desire to change my life
and heal.
Reiki - Everything Happens for a Reason
I no longer search
outside myself for
what has to come
from within. I
recognize the Divine
presence within
me...my source of
peace. May the
violet flame help me
to realize who I am.
